Study at Hartman Institute

Wednesday at the Hartman institute. A very full day. The photos are from four talks in afternoon and evening. I didn't take any photographs in the morning which was mostly self-study.

The Amen Effect speaker -- Sharon Brous

I had heard her speak a few months ago in Phoenix. She talks about loneliness and about how many people are in crisis particularly if they have lost children due to some terrible event. Each of us is capable of befriending them and helping them cope with their crisis and that can help us as well.

The Triumph of Life --- Yitz Greenberg

Greenberg is finishing his final book at age 91. Judaism is a religion that prioritizes life and aspires to utopianism.

Psalms of Crisis-- Benjamin Sommer

This is a mini course that runs all week. He's only focusing on 20 or 25 Psalms which deal with crisis and the absence of God. He's a very good teacher and very friendly. It is very hard to teach Psalms because they know so little about how they were put together and who wrote them. Because of this he stresses the way that they were used. People would come to the Levites with terrible problems and the levite would help them recite one of the Psalms.

Israel on campus --  Panel

Two professors talking about what it is like to be on college campuses right now.  The first one teaches at Johns Hopkins and the other at Berkeley.
