The Hartman Institute tiyul took us to Kibbutz Nir Oz. In the 7 October 2023 attack, Hamas killed or abducted many of the 427 residents of Nir Oz.. Visiting the burnt-out houses was horrific.
The Hamas assault on the kibbutz began at about 630 AM was over by 1 PM, No Army reached the Kibbutz during this time period. According to the guide,
Unfortunately, the tour guide, Rita, rushed us through the Kibbutz at break-neck speed and did not explain much. Whether she was just too traumatized to give us much information or whatever the reason, she didn't give us a broad overview of what had happened. Rather she mostly just stated who lived in each house and what happened to them.
She was in Tel Aviv on the day of the attack visiting her daughter. I am sure many of her friends were killed or kidnapped but she did not speak about this very much. I can only imagine how hard it much be to show tourists around your Kibbutz where so many of your friends were murdered.
